Due to Company expansion, we are seeking to recruit a full time Senior Freight Liability Adjuster. It is anticipated that the Adjuster will be based part time at our office in Maidenbower, Crawley and will also be working from home. The appointee will join our diverse team handling Goods in Transit insurance claims and be encouraged to develop their career into a managerial role.
Key aspects of the role
- Management of a caseload of claims from initial notification to resolution.
- Assessing accurately the insureds legal liability under their STCs, B/L, HAWB or bespoke contract terms and adjusting claims in conformity with insurance cover
- Advising clients concerning service contract liability and clauses.
- To formulate client defence strategies and manage the claims process with insurers and the insured.
- Ensuring that claims reserves are correctly maintained and that the IT system is up to date with all key information.
- The appointment and control of surveyors, adjusters and lawyers as to ensure timely intervention and mitigation of claims. To ensure that fee control is maintained at all times.
- To ensure that claims are handled properly, fairly and with integrity in accordance with Collyers' service agreements with its clients.
- Ensure that potential recoveries against responsible subcontractors and third parties are identified and pursued appropriately, economically and expeditiously.
- Ensure that large loss information is shared properly and large loss reports filed.
- Maintain high standards of communication with senior management, team members and principals so that information on significant claims trends is acquired.
- To attend claims meetings and travel as required.
- Participate in the claims auditing process.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements relating to claims handling and in particular KPI and TCF.
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will ideally have the following:
- At least 6 years' experience of freight liability claims. Candidates with marine cargo claims or risk management experience will be considered but familiarity with the legal framework applying to road, air and ocean transit must be demonstrated.
- Graduate and or ACII equivalent.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Good telephone manner and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Excel / Outlook / Word) operating within Windows 10
- Good organisation skills including effective time management
- Be comfortable taking ownership for own work, be able to use initiative, whilst also working effectively as part of a team sharing information and experiences.
- Be eager to learn and ask questions in order to develop and expand knowledge base
- Foreign language skills would be an advantage as would experience of risk management.
This is a full-time position encompassing 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Salary dependent on experience and relevant qualifications.

Do you have a background in customer service/administration and are you looking for your next challenge?
We are seeking to recruit a Junior insurance claims handler to join our client's team based in Maidenbower, Crawley. The company encourages teamwork, communication, peer training and career progression.
We require someone with a good standard of education, ideally with some experience of dealing with customers and the ability to develop customer relationships, though full in-house training will be provided.
Some insurance experience and/or foreign language skills would be an advantage, but this is not essential.
It is vital that you have excellent communication skills and telephone manner, as well as a working knowledge of computer applications.
You should be able to demonstrate that they are willing to utilise individual initiative whilst working as part of a team dedicated to providing excellent service to all parties involved in the claims.
